Celebrities have truckloads of the limelight and they get more of it when they get registered as criminals. These celebs made headlines not for their upcoming movie or a luxury item they bought but for something that led them behind the bars.
All human beings make a mistake and so did they. However, their mistakes got overboard. How many of these were known to you as Hollywood jailbirds?
Amanda Bynes
In the last few years, this woman has made headlines but it has been for all the wrong reasons. It wasn’t for her acting or her upcoming movies. Unfortunately, she is found more into legal troubles than in movies, that is what has been happening in the last few years.
In April 2012, the star sideswiped a police car at three in the morning. She was asked to take the drug test but she refused to take it and was arrested for the same. Two months into the arrest, she was charged with driving under influence.
Bruno Mars
This party maniac was arrested while he was doing what he loves the most – PARTAY!
In September 2010, he was caught because he was carrying a few grams of “you know what” in the bathroom of the Hard Rock Hotel. He was found guilty and was given a fine of $2000 and was sentenced to drug counseling and community service.
Mars did speak up about the incident and said, “I was in f****** Vegas. I wasn’t thinking.” Didn’t the police hear when they said, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”
Heather Locklear
This beautiful woman is known for her blinding smile but we suppose that didn’t work while she got involved in misdemeanor battery offenses. When the police appeared to arrest her, she became combative with the officers.
Later, she was put into a facility for her treatment and she was placed on 5150 psychiatric holds.
Hugh Grant
This rom-com icon is love. However, 1995 was a harsh year for him. He was involved in quite some controversies at this point of time. While being in a relationship with actress, Elizabeth Hurley, he was found with an escort in his car while they were getting all nasty. He was made to pay a fine of $1000 and was asked to attend an AIDS education program.
He spoke about the incident at an interview with Jay Leno and said, “I’ve done an abominable thing, and she [Liz Hurley] has been amazing about it.”
Mel Gibson
Director for the classics like The Passion of the Christ and a movie star in movies like Braveheart and Lethal Weapon, Mel Gibson was arrested in July 2006. Under the influence of alcohol, he was driving above the speed limit and that caused his arrest.
He later issued a public apology to the Jewish community. He said, “I am in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from during that drunken display, and I am asking the Jewish community, whom I have personally offended, to help me on my journey through recovery.”
Aaron Carter
Aaron was arrested in Cornelia, Georgia because he was driving under the influence of marijuana. The sheriff, Floyd Canup said that he was driving all over the place.
However, the singer refused the claims and said that he wasn’t under the influence of alcohol as he cannot drink due to a medical condition. He said that the car he was driving was a cheap one and he bought it to visit club experiences and avoid the following.
Matthew McConaughey
Most people regret the instances where they are arrested but this one is unlike all of those. Matthew McConaughey says that he doesn’t regret the arrest one bit. His neighbors had called the police as he was making noise. When the police arrived at the scene, Matthew was playing bongo drums… naked!
Police arrested him for the possession of marijuana but later that offense was dropped. He had to spend 9 hours in jail and was released on a bond of $1000.
Justin Bieber
In January 2014, Justin was caught drag racing at Miami beach under the influence and an expired license. All this happened at four in the morning.
Speaking about the incident, he said, “The police just wanted press. I was never speeding; I was never drag racing. The cop supposedly wanted to be famous for arresting celebrities, and someone had heard him say that prior to that. I wasn’t drinking. I blew the thing and I had 0.01.”
Rose McGowan
This one fell into trouble in 2017 while she was traveling on a flight to Washington D.C. While cleaning, one of the staff members found a wallet and that as stashed with two packs of illegal substance. Rose didn’t realize what had happened until she received a message from an unknown person on her social media handle.
The message on Instagram read, “You left your wallet on your Saturday flight with your 2 bags of coke.” Nine months into this, she pleaded not guilty of drug possession.
Paris Hilton
This woman has been arrested a number of times and this run-in with the law started in 2006.
Hilton has been arrested for driving under the influence and has gotten her license suspended. She didn’t care about the suspension of the license and was pulled over by the police. She was then sentenced to jail for 45 days, however, she being a star didn’t spend even a week behind the bars. She came back to her comfort by making a few phone calls.
Naya Rivera
In November 2017, Naya was arrested on the basis of charges of domestic abuse. She attacked her husband, Ryan Dorsey in their West Virginia home. He called up the Kanawha County Sheriff’s office to inform about the incident. She had hit him in his head and across his face.
The incident took place while the two of them were out for a walk with their 2-year-old son. Dorsey even gave a video to police and that is when they took her in custody. She was released on a bond of $1000.
Tiger Woods
Driving under influence seems like a favorite crime for most celebrities. What is this obsession with driving after being drunk or high? On may 29, 2017, golf legend, Tiger Woods was arrested in his hometown of Jupiter, Florida.
According to his blood test, he had had five different illicit substances at the time of getting pulled over. After all the legalities, he was put into a particular diversion program and it had one year of probation. He even had to pay $250 and other court costs. It even included 50 hours of community service and a workshop for victims of impaired driving.
Lindsay Lohan
For a decade, Lindsay Lohan found herself in and out of jail due to some incidents that took place. It started in 2007 and it was because of DUI and a hit and run case. Since then, it has repeated mistakes of grand theft and probation violations.
So, she has had three trips to the jail, five to rehab centers, and also home confinement. The last incident took place in 2012 where she assaulted a woman outside a club in Manhattan, New York.
Robert Downey Jr.
We all know this person as Tony Stark and in 1999. He landed behind the bars after he violated his probation. But for what was he put on probation? Back in 1996, the actor was pulled over for speeding under influence and he was in possession of an abundance of illegal substance. Moreover, he had a .357 magnum gun that made the case worse for him.
This was not all. It again happened in 2001 when police found him wandering barefoot on the streets of Culver City, California.
Nicole Richie
The officials consider this law enforcement of Nicole Richie very lucky. In December 2006, Nicole was arrested for driving in the wrong direction in the carpool lane of the freeway. She was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. After pleading not guilty to a DUI, she agreed that she did use Vicodin and another illicit substance.
She was punished to stay in jail for four days but due to overcrowding, she was made to leave the bars within 82 minutes.
Michelle Rodriguez
She made headlines for being starred in an indie film, Girlfight in 2000. However, the storyline changed in six years and she was in news for being sentenced to jail.
As we said, driving under the influence is the favorite crime, Michelle did the same and was put in jail for drinking and driving. She said, “I’m really glad that the judge wasn’t blinded by you know, the kinda illusion of the actress. I’m kinda glad you know, cause I’m human.”
Reese Witherspoon
It wasn’t just Reese who got arrested at this point of time. Her husband was arrested as well and she thought she might get away with it with her popularity but that didn’t happen.
The officer was giving her husband Jim Toth the walk-and-turn sobriety test on suspecting that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. That is when Reese said, “Do you know my name? You’re about to find out who I am. You’re about to be on national news.”
She was sorry for her behavior and blamed the alcohol for the way she behaved.
Mischa Barton
Mischa was arrested in December 2007 as she was under the influence of alcohol while driving. Moreover, she didn’t have a license and was in possession of marijuana. She was pulled over in West Hollywood when a sheriff spotted her weaving in and out of lanes.
Speaking about the incident after years, she said that working hard and party harder was meant to take seriously. BTW, she was just 21 at that point of time.
Nicki Minaj
Back in 2003, Nicki Minaj was arrested for having possession of a weapon. She was just 20 years old at that time and was a waitress at Red Lobster. She was taken in custody because she was intending to use the weapon. This queens native’s mugshot was given a creative spin by Jay Z and used it in his backdrop for his On The Run 2 Tour.
Haley Reinhart
She was initially known for making her career out of the tenth season of American Idol. Her big smile, the raspy voice took away people’s breath. But who would have known that this girl with a bright smile would be put behind the bars for physically assaulting a bouncer outside a bar? When she and her friends knocked over a table, they were asked to leave the bar. Later she was charged with a count of battery.
