These Worst Cars Reflect The Biggest Failures Of The Automotive Industry

Let’s take you on a drive that is thrilling and will give you an insight into the automotive world. This one is probably something that you have not really discussed a lot. When you talk about cars, everyone mentions their favorite ones but here, we have the compilation of the worst cars ever made. Put on your seatbelts for an “informative” journey!

Ford Pinto (1971-80)

The truth about this car is hidden from none. The lawsuits that piled up against this model are proof of the worst experience it provided. The major concern (one of many!) in Ford Pinto was its catching fire when rear-ended. Sounds enough dangerous!

The testing phase of this car wasn’t at all convincing with fuel tank bursting whenever they crashed it. We wonder who said the final “yes” to bring it on road after witnessing all this.

Ford Mustang II (1974)

Not the Mustang you would imagine!

If you are in the dream world of “Mustang”, then this model would burst your bubble in a second. Ford came out with this car and disappointments followed. Firstly, the design did not please anyone’s eyes and then, the performance received horrible ratings from the people.

We hope this was the first and last the worst Mustang ever.

Cadillac Fleetwood V-8-6-4 (1981)

The mention of Cadillac just makes our jaws drop and takes us to the world of luxury. But the exceptions are always there. For Cadillac, the exception lies in the 1981 version of Fleetwood V-8-6-4 that proved to be a let-down for such a big name.

The onboard computer technology and semiconductors could not save this car’s performance. People complained of weird noises and jolts when they took it out for a ride.

Fuller Dymaxion (1933)

Firstly, you should know that Fuller Dymaxion never came out for sale. The testing experience was so rough and fatal that it could never be launched in the market.

The talent of the designer, R. Buckminster Fuller cannot be doubted but he let this model be too far from reality and it didn’t turn out to be in his favor.

The three-wheel construction proved to be a big obstacle as the driving just got tougher!

Maserati Biturbo (1984)

The one thing that car owners hate is making trips to the repair and service centers every other day. They would rather prefer not having a car than having to get their vehicle repaired and maintained continuously. The 1984 Maserati Biturbo was a nightmare for all as it made people do everything we just mentioned above.

The components of this car had the least strength and they could not hold together for long. We know Maserati can do much better than this!

AMC Pacer (1975-80)

Unfortunately, not all efforts lead to good results and AMC Pacer is proof of that. What the company aimed at creating did not come true at all. The features were not up to the mark including the air conditioning that was terrible. What else can you expect from this car?

AMC Pacer has been termed as a “nerdy” car and we guess that’s an appropriate word attached to it even when its components seem quite detached from it!

Jaguar X-Type (2001)

This is not another Jaguar model you have imagined in your head. When this car model hit the road, people had a few expectations and each of those came crashing down when people shared their experiences with Jaguar X-Type.

The luxury car lacked so many “posh” elements resulting in the failure of the vehicle and hence, the company encountering a loss.

The Pontiac Aztek (2001-05)

This one is unsatisfactory in many ways and if we begin to describe its “features” that made it enter this list of worst cars ever, they won’t end soon. The body design was a major issue as the visibility gets effected due to the unsuitable construction.

Let’s get into the interiors – they were faulty when certain aspects are considered and those can’t be ignored when safety comes into question. Aztek had a tough time in the market!

Yugo GV (1985)

This car had to show up on this list due to all the wrong happened in its designing. The material used to build Yugo GV is way below the standard that is expected from an automotive company. It didn’t take long for the components to wear and tear leading to risky driving.

As soon as you sit in the car, you would get strange burning smells and we all know what that points at. The dangers just kept increasing and the car failed to impress people with rear window defroster or carpeted interior!

Chevy Chevette (1976)

In an attempt to make the car affordable for all, Chevy made this car and it turned out to be a complete failure. Chevette did not receive any good reviews and the owners regretted their purchase shortly after they made it.

We all have high expectations from Chevy especially with their Camaro on the roads. But they probably have a few failures in their bags too and Chevette is one of them. The features were a disaster and let’s not speak of the performance!

Amphicar (1961)

When the automobile company decided to blend boat and car in one design, Amphicar was born and no, it didn’t touch any success. Amphicar neither had satisfactory car features nor did it have the potential to work as a boat.

Its slow speed and leakage issues were the major obstacles in its working. Guess the maximum speed of this car in the water. You need to come really low for the actual number as it was only 7 mph. A lot of modifications were needed but that demanded a lot of time and money (again!).

Morgan Plus 8 Propane (1975)

Don’t get too excited by seeing its exterior design. That is deceiving to some extent. You can’t know what goes inside the car unless you get behind the wheel and take it for a ride.

The problem that arose in this Morgan Plus 8 Propane model was with the fuel storage. The idea of putting a large propane tank on the rear bumper added to the already existing problems.

This car didn’t carry any good news for the buyers!

Plymouth Prowler (1997)

Here’s a sports car that should be called anything but a speeding sports car. If you look at the exterior of Plymouth Prowler, make sure that the design does not deceive you. The performance is far from the expectations of the people.

Horsepower of this “beast”? That turns out to be a disappointing 250! We wonder why this was launched as a sports car when it had nothing to maintain that title.

Ford Taurus (1996)

This had to be in the list of worst cars ever. The Taurus model by Ford is something that the company definitely regretted as it was a let-down. They might have tried to go unconventional with the designing but the details got really strange.

The buyers were not satisfied with the space that the trunk offered and also, the weight just exceeded the levels that just added to its repulsive features.

Cadillac Cimarron (1981-1988)

As they say that you can’t judge a book by its cover, the same goes for cars. You can’t tell the reality of a car unless you take it for a spin and experience it. The name Cadillac can attract you but not all of their designs were a hit. Take, for instance, this Cimarron that gave the worst experience to the drivers.

The 88-horsepower wasn’t reliable and so, this car had “disaster” written all over it. No more Cadillac failures in the future, please!

AMC Gremlin (1970-78)

In an attempt to build a compact car with additional useful features, AMC came up with this Gremlin model that did not live up to the expectations of the buyers.

AMC Gremlin had certain changes from the AMC Hornet with the suspension system modified. But the engine just had extra weight that made the driving difficult. The unavailability of most basic things in a car made people hard to believe that they were looking at an AMC model.

Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Diesel (1979)

This is not the kind of diesel car that would be a success for resolving some energy issues. There was a good thought behind this 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Diesel but nothing went as it was meant to be with this model. The diesel engine can be termed as a failure in this case as it gave rise to fuel consumption problems.

Taking everything into consideration, this car was a debacle!

Renault Dauphine (1956)

The 1956 version of Renault Dauphine was the definition of being slow. Imagine a car taking more than 30 seconds to get on 60 mph! What is a driver supposed to do with such low acceleration? No one wants a car that lacks the standard speed pick-up.

The car was built poorly overall and the designing, both interior, and exterior did not attract anyone. Renault went extremely wrong in this construction!

Ford Edsel (1958)

The efforts that went behind the designing of this car were all futile as the final Ford Edsel model flopped miserably. It didn’t have anything that the company claimed before the launch of this vehicle. Even the appearance of the car did not appeal to anyone.

The company conducted various surveys to understand what people desire in their car but it seems like the results of those surveys got lost somewhere!

Chevrolet Vega (1971-77)

Although Chevrolet Vega received the 1971 Motor Trend Car of the Year award and it was only limited to the innovation they put in its construction. Nothing beyond that deserved any sort of award!

The advanced methods used while designing this vehicle came as a blow to the entire model. The car got rusted and corroded easily including the aluminum engine that could not be saved from the corrosion attack.
