Relationships with siblings can be complicated sometimes. While it might be filled with love, there are moments filled with love but there are also times when there is jealousy and rivalry. Despite that, sisters share a unique bond, unique history and unspoken connection that can usually withstand the test of time. But what would happen when sisters commit the ultimate betrayal?
When Sarah Everly's sister Jodie proposed that they start a business together, Sarah eagerly embraced the idea. Little did she know that this decision would spiral into a tangled web of deceit, ultimately leading to a dramatic and irreversible transformation in her life.
1. Introducing Sarah Everly
Sarah Everly, who is a 40 year old woman, lived in North Carolina's Charlotte along with her husband, Mike. Sarah worked as a pre-school educator but what she enjoyed doing the most was baking. She loved to bake, anytime she got a chance and was extremely talented. Her friends and family commissioned her to bake cakes for special occasions and no one could believe they were not professionally made.
She always dreamt of opening her own bakery. However, she did not have the initial money to take off. She never thought her dream would come true and turn her life into a living horror.
2. An Ideal Perfect Marriage
Sarah and Mike had been married for the past 16 years and it looked like a perfect marriage. Mike was a supportive and attentive husband and even after more than a decade, they were still as romantic and excited to be together as they had been in the start of their relationship.
Mike was a teacher at a local business school and was a very down-to-earth, practical guy and Sarah loved how dependable he was. She knew she could always count on him. Little did she know, he was hiding a secret side of himself that she never knew existed.
3. Mike and Jodie’s Bond
Sarah's sister, Jodie worked in the same business school as Mike and both were always close. Both Mike and Jodie had a lot in common, like similar sense of humor. They also had lunch regularly and the trio traveled on vacations together too.
Because Jodie was single, she lived by herself and Mike usually helped her with work related to her home or garden. Sarah was also very close with her sister and was happy to "loan" Mike out for help.
It seemed like the perfect set-up for all three of them.
4. Never Skeptical
While Sarah's husband's close bond with her sister might bother some women to be concerned, Sarah was never suspicious. She was quite secure in her marriage with Mike and Jodie was not only her sister but also her best friend.
As a matter of fact, Sarah felt blessed and happy that two people she loved the most in the world got along so well. She was friends with people who had terrible in-law relations and she felt grateful that she did not have to deal with unnecessary drama. Little did she know it was a matter of time until everything they’d worked so hard to build came crashing down.
5. Father's Death
Sarah one day received a call from distraught Jodie saying 'It is dad—he's gone.' The siblings' father was ill for a long time and their mother passed away a few years back. They were not very close to their parents but it is definitely shocking to lose their last remaining parent.
Sarah and Jodie organized a funeral together with the help of Mike. As they stood by the graveside, Sarah felt grateful that she, Mike, and Jodie had created their own little family—an immense comfort in times of grief. Their bond felt stronger than ever.
6. Inheritance
Another result of Sarah's father's death was about the inheritance. He did not have much but because Sarah and Jodie were the last surviving members of the family and they were set to inherit everything he had.
It was a small sum of money and the sibling sisters decided to invest the money together. That way the amount would continue to grow and could share the benefits of the investment made. The sisters were up late at night one time and thought about a few options. All of a sudden, Jodie suggested something that made Sarah’s heart thump with anticipation.
7. Opening Up A Bakery
Jodie said slowly, "Sarah, why don't we open a bakery?" Sarah looked surprised and Jodie had never taken much interest in her baking hobby. Sarah asked, "Are you serious?" Jodie responded enthusiastically with, "Why not? It has always been your dream and now we finally have the money to start it off the ground."
Sarah seemed flattered with her sister who had faith and belief in her baking talent to invest their money. However, the more she thought about it, the more she felt it was the right thing to do. She knew it would be a tough road ahead, but if they worked together, she was sure they could achieve something great.
8. A Dream Come True
Many weeks of the discussion taking place between Jodie and Mike, Sarah decided to go ahead with the plan of the bakery. Her sister and husband were on board fully to support her and three of them were excited to make it happen.
Once they looked for an appropriate shop front to rent and filled out business incorporation papers, Sarah started recipe-testing, making sure her baked creations were the best. As she mixed and chopped, chopped, and kneaded, it felt like all her dreams were finally coming true.
9. Working Together
Three of them decided to have Mike look after the business aspect, Jodie would look after the marketing and promotion of the bakery while Sarah would obviously be the baker-in-chief. They would all keep their day jobs part-time until things got off the ground.
Going ahead, the next few weeks three of them worked through the day and night to get things ready and found a perfect space, cleaned it up and Sarah started baking to ensure it worked like she had never before to make sure she didn’t let Jodie and Mike down. After all, the success of the business depended on her.
10. A Text Out Of The Blue
Sarah was up late in order to perfect her frosting skills one evening and Mike was already in bed, she heard her phone ring and after picking it up, she read a text from an unknown number.
She opened the text and was staring at the phone screen in confusion. The message read, 'Hi Sarah, this is Jodie's friend Marissa. It is not my place to say but I could not live with myself if I didn't say something.'
Sarah read on and felt her stomach lurch painfully.
11. A Caution From Marissa
The message from Marissa went on: "I have known Jodie for years and I care about her deeply which is why it is so hard. I know you are about to begin a huge project together and I hope it works out."
"But I have to caution you -I have seen a version of Jodie that makes me worried about how it will affect you and your dream. However, be careful and protect yourself. I can't say anything further but trust me, it’s important to be aware. You deserve to succeed without any hidden complications. Take care" and the message continued to go on. Sarah blinked, struggling to believe what she was reading.
12. Brushing It Aside
The message obviously gave Sarah time to think but after her initial surprise her shock wore off and she ignored it. She knew Jodie better than anybody else and there was no way Marissa knew Jodie better than her own sister.
All the plans for the bakery were going smoothly and there was nothing to hint that Jodie would cause any problem. Sarah figured out that Jodie and Marissa would not be close and decided to forget about the message. She had more important things to focus on.
13. Preparing to Launch
Sarah, Jodie, and Mike had finally come up with the name for their bakery: 'Flour Power.' The renovations were completed, social media campaigns were on, and the flyers were distributed. Most importantly, Sarah's roster of bakes perfected and ready to go.
They decided to have a grand launch party for the opening to kick things off in style. After all her marketing work, Jodie assured them it was going to be a huge success. Sarah had huge butterflies in her stomach the whole week before.
And just like that, her dream was finally coming true.
14. The Night Before
A night before the grand launch, Jodie and Mike told Sarah to head home to get some rest and they would ensure to finish the final preps because she would need to be back at the crack of dawn to bake.
Sarah realized she had to head back to move some dough into the fridge so it wouldn’t overprove. It was late and she assumed the others would have left by now. But as her key clicked in the lock, she heard sounds of muffled talking coming from the kitchen. She was about to walk in when she heard something that made her stop in her tracks.
15. Overhearing Conversations
Once Sarah went towards the kitchen, she heard Jodie's voice which was law but seemed urgent. 'We need to be careful, Mike.' If you want this to work out Sarah cannot suspect a thing,' she said. Sarah held her breath while listening to their conversation and leaning close to the door thinking were they planning a surprise for her?
'I know, but how do we do it without making it obvious?' Mike replied. Sarah was thinking what they would be talking about. Is it about the grand opening she thought, wondering what they had in mind. It wouldn’t be long before she found out.
16. Cutting Her Off
Sarah's heart was pounding as she was listening and Jodie's next words broke her hope. "We can take up more and more responsibilities, making it look as if we are just helping out. Eventually she will feel left out, insecure and move back. Once she is out of the picture, we can manage the rest by ourselves,", she said. Hearing this, Sarah's stomach dropped and then Mike said, "But what if she realizes what we're doing?"
Jodie replied in a voice with a bit of pity saying "She trusts us completely, she would never see it coming." Immediately then, Sarah understood they were both planning to cut her out of the bakery entirely. Betrayal washed over her, and she stepped back, stunned and heartbroken.
17. Calling Marissa
Disturbed while hearing their conversation, Sarah went on to read the messages sent by Marissa earlier. This is what her sister's friend was warning her about. Jodie and Mike were trying to take over the bakery business.
Sarah then stepped out of the bakery to her car and drove around the corner where they would not see her and called up Marissa. 'It is Sarah, Jodie's sister. Tell me everything,' she said urgently. Marissa answered, 'It is better to show you.'
Once Sarah hung up the call, her phone buzzed violently where Marissa was sending her screenshots after screenshots. Sarah's head started to spin, as she opened them one by one.
18. The Text Messages
The screenshots Marissa shared were of messages between Jodie and Mike which Jodie shared with Marissa. Some messages were many years old and the recent ones were about the discussions of the bakery and had references to their plan to cut Sarah out of the business.
Eventually, what seemed surprising was the conversation that revealed a lot about the nature of Mike and Jodie's relationship. All of these years, Sarah thought they were just good friends brought together by their relationship with her. Now she realized she had been blind to what had really been going on.
19. The Secret Affair
It is pretty clear based on their online conversations that Jodie and Mike were having an affair behind Sarah's back for years together. The messages revealed detailed confessions, secret rendezvous and plans that were beyond the bakery. Sarah's eyes opened wide with horror as she went on to read affectionate nicknames they shared, the fantasies and their hidden longing to be together.
The betrayal was too deep when she realized that her sister and husband, the two people she trusted the most, deceived her for so long that it was unbearable. Sarah gripped the steering wheel to steady herself—her world was crumbling as she grasped the extent of their treachery.
20. Feeling Shattered
Sarah drove home with the feeling of numbness while her steering wheel was on autopilot. Once she reached home, she slowly headed towards the stairs and lay down in the bed. Mike had beaten her home and was snoring gently. She looked at him as she never did before.
Who is this stranger claiming to love her but all this while was lying to her face? Looking into his face that was familiar. Her heart broke all over again. She had no idea how she would go through the grand opening, next day but she for sure was not going to give Jodie and Mike the satisfaction of ruining her business as well as her life.
21. The Grand Launch Of The Bakery Opening
Jodie woke up early the next morning and went to "Flour Power." She tossed and moved all night and her eyes turned red and her hair was messy. She hid her signs of agony as much as she could and was not ready to confront Jodie and Mike yet.
The grand opening was successful-the bakery was filled with people and they were sold out of all the items. Jodie and Mike were over the moon and Sarah tried her best to project her happy face despite being filled with anger and heartbreak.
22. Business Was Flourishing
Despite the pain Sarah was controlling secretly she was thriving. She poured herself into her bakes, making more delicious and elaborate sweet treats than ever before. Jodie and Mike kept encouraging her to pull back and take a break. "You are working too hard, honey, let Jodie and I pick up some of the slack," Mike said while wooing her.
Every word he uttered felt like a blow now that Sarah knew the meaning behind it, which is that Jodie and Mike were planning to cut her out from the business. She knew she would not let that happen.
23. Making A Plan
After weeks of working her best and making sure the business is off to a good start, Sarah decided it was time to act on the situation. Mike thought it was stress and exhaustion why her behavior was withdrawn—he had no idea she had just been waiting for the perfect moment to strike back.
Sarah went back to those deceptive screenshots and thought about her options. She wanted to insult Mike and Jodie just like they insulted her. Eventually, a plan started to form in her mind.
24. Awake All Night
Sarah found herself up all night, once again at the bakery. Her heart ached as she worked knowing that her life was about to change forever. The life she thought she changed permanently the night she overheard her sister and husband planning to betray her. It was time to get back at them.
Sarah held her piping bag uniformly while working for hours straight without a break. After all, she is an extremely talented baker. She just never thought she’d need to use her skills for such an awful reason. She felt a grim sense of satisfaction knowing that it would all be over the next morning.
25. Catching Them Off-Guard
Just an hour prior to the opening hour, Sarah changed the display of the bakery counter. They usually kept the most appealing treats visually in a special display and today it would look different.
Customers were waiting to line up outside and Sarah wanted the time to move until Mike and Jodie were due to come. They came together and laughed about something and greeted Sarah brightly. Sarah looked back at them cruelly watching their smiles falter as they caught the sight of what she had done. Jodie’s mouth dropped open and Mike looked horrified.
26. The Cookies
The new display that Sarah changed had an array of painstakingly decorated cookies, all decorated with Sarah's neatly iced calligraphy. Sarah and Mike read each and every cookie which were displayed in black icing were the messages that Sarah read from the screenshots Marissa sent.
She chose the most incriminating statements which revealed their plans to cut her out and about their secret affair. "Cannot wait to finally be together," one read. "Sarah will never know," and many other texts.
As they stood frozen, Sarah felt a mix of vindication and sadness. as she had exposed their betrayal in the most public and undeniable way.
27. Revealing the Reality
As the customers came in, their curiosity turned into shock and the whispers spread like wildfire and soon everyone was reading the cookies and exchanging scandalized glances. Jodie and Mike tried to pull Sarah aside, but she stood her ground, her voice steady despite the turmoil within.
Sarah said coldly, "I know everything" while eye locking with theirs. "The affair, the plan to cut me out—it's all here for everyone to see." Jodie's face was filled with shame as Mike looked away and unable to look into the eyes.
Sarah felt a heavy weight lift off her shoulders. The truth was out, and there was no turning back.
28. Fresh Beginnings
After the confrontation in the public, Jodie and Mike left with disgrace from the bakery. Sarah with the help of the loyal support from customers and friends decided to continue running her 'Flour Power' on her own. The initial days seemed tough and she and Mike navigated a messy divorce, but the community rallied around her, impressed by her courage and resilience.
Baking was her comfort zone and the business was such a success under her sole ownership. Sarah then decided to hire new staff and rebranded the bakery which emphasized more on quality and trust. She also learnt to go with her gut instinct and strength. Every day came with different challenges and also came with that a renewed sense of purpose and independence.
29. Looking to the Future
So in conclusion, Sarah's dream of having her bakery came true and felt grateful for all the help she had from her husband and sister. It wasn't until she found out that she was a victim of the ultimate betrayal.
We are happy that Sarah found her strength to expose Jodie and Mike's betrayal and was able to keep making her dream come true.
We hope that she continues to heal and rebuild her life with the support of the "Flour Power" community.
