Wife Won't Take Husband Off Life Support For 10 Years, Mother-In-Law Gets Involved

Not Her Scene

Meg and Andy Haynes had been married for three years and together for four years. From the outside looking in, they seemed like the perfect couple.

Over the last few months, Meg felt neglected as Andy made new friends at the motor club he had recently joined. Meg felt left out since it wasn't her scene.

A New Hobby

Suddenly obsessed with cars and racing, Andy spent most weekends going to the motor club to meet like-minded people or to watch the races.

When Meg tried going with him, she didn't enjoy it. She had no interest in cars.

Fighting For His Attention

During this time, Meg began to feel neglected by Andy and thought he had better things to do than spend a weekend with her.

The young man was constantly on his phone, chatting and checking when the next gathering would take place with his new friends. In the meantime, Meg was getting tired of fighting for his attention.

His Passion

She still loved Andy, and she was glad that he found something he was passionate about. He had never been so excited about anything before.

But when Andy told her he was considering getting into a racing car himself, she raised an eyebrow. But she had no idea where this was going.

She Didn't Realize

Meg was invited to watch Andy drive in his first race. Her nervousness was understandable. She was unaware that he had been practicing for a race.

It showed that she didn't know much about her husband's new hobby, and she felt embarrassed that she didn't know most of his new friends.

She Was Scared

Meg sat in the stands, watching Andy's car as it stood in line. His car was labeled with the number 8 on the side. All of his new friends cheered him on as the car accelerated.

Meg held her breath as she closed her eyes. It was impossible for her to watch. The possibility of something happening frightened her.

Something Happened

But before long, something did happen. Her heart sank as she watched Andy’s number 8 car crash into a barrier.

As personnel and an ambulance rushed onto the track, Meg watched, her heart pounding in her chest. She was relieved to see Andy lifted out of the mangled vehicle, but was he alive? Meg couldn’t tell.

In A Matter Of Minutes

Meg couldn’t believe what had transpired in a matter of minutes. Andy’s crash resulted in him being rushed to the ER and put into ICU.

Meg was devastated beyond belief. She couldn’t understand how it all happened, and she just wanted her husband to be alright. She sat outside the ICU, waiting for any news.

Not The News She Had Hoped For

As soon as she saw the doctor, she asked him for any news on Andy. It was not the news she had hoped and prayed for.

Andy was alive but in a coma. Meg broke down in tears. She didn’t know what to do with that information. When would he come out of the coma? Would he ever come out of the coma?

In Sickness And In Health

Weeks turned into months, and Andy remained in a coma. This was Meg’s new normal. She was there every day to sit by his bedside, hoping that he would wake up.

She had made the vow, “In sickness and in health,” so she felt it was her duty to be there. She talked to him and hoped that he somehow could hear her.

The Long Vigil

Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Meg's life became consumed by the hospital. She put her own dreams and desires on hold, dedicating herself entirely to Andy's recovery.

She spent countless hours researching treatments, therapies, and experimental procedures that could potentially help Andy wake up from his coma. She consulted with specialists, seeking any glimmer of hope.

Committed

Meg's unwavering commitment impressed the hospital staff and other patients' families. They admired her dedication and often offered words of encouragement and support. But deep down, Meg couldn't shake the feeling of loneliness that gnawed at her heart.

She just wanted her husband to wake up so that they could go home. She just wanted her old life back.

A Stranger's Glimpse

One sunny afternoon, as Meg sat by Andy's bedside, a peculiar incident caught her attention. A woman rushed into the hospital, clutching a bouquet of roses.

She looked flustered and was looking all around the busy hospital, trying to get someone’s attention. She eventually flagged down a nurse and began speaking to her in a hushed tone.

A Break

Meg decided to step out of the room to go get a sandwich and some coffee to keep her energy up. She had been there since yesterday and needed to go home and shower and put on a fresh set of clothes.

When she had done all that, she was feeling so much better. Then, as she made her to Andy’s room, she saw something unexpected.

The Stranger

Meg's eyes widened in surprise as she watched the woman approach Andy's bed with a mix of urgency and familiarity.

The stranger's hazel eyes scanned the room, searching for something or someone. Meg's heart raced with a sudden uneasiness, her mind racing to comprehend who this woman could be and what her intentions were. Was she a friend of Andy’s?

Intimate Gestures

With a determined expression, the woman placed the bouquet on the bedside table and gently brushed a strand of hair away from Andy's forehead. Meg's hands trembled as she observed the intimate gesture between the stranger and her comatose husband.

She then realized that it was the same woman she had seen earlier in the hospital hallway.

Who Are You?

Unable to contain her curiosity any longer, Meg mustered the courage to approach the woman cautiously. "Excuse me," she said with a quiver in her voice. "Who are you?"

The woman turned towards Meg, her gaze filled with a mix of surprise and guilt. "I... I'm sorry. I thought... I thought this was someone else's room," she stammered, her voice trembling slightly.

Instincts

Meg's instincts told her there was more to this encounter than met the eye. "Haven't I seen you here before?  How do you know him?" she pressed. Desperately seeking answers, she continued to badger the attractive lady “Yes, I think we have met before,” Meg was lying now, trying to prompt her into saying something.

“You must be mistaken; I don’t know him. Like I said, I thought he was someone else. I have to go now.” And with that, the stranger left the room in a hurry, covering her head with a scarf as she exited.

A Mere Coincidence?

Meg's heart pounded in her chest as she watched the woman hastily leave. Something didn't add up, and Meg's instincts told her that the encounter was far from a mere coincidence.

She couldn't shake the feeling that this woman had some or other connection to Andy, and she was determined to find out the truth.

Crippling Anxiety

Meg felt anxiety flood her body. She had been by Andy’s side for months, who did this woman think she was coming into her hospital room unnanounced like that?

She didn’t believe the woman when she said that it was merely a mistake and she had the wrong room. Meg was right to trust her gut because when everything was out in the open, she would be devastated.

What Was Going On?

What was going on here? Who exactly was that woman? She had left roses at Andy’s bedside even though she said she thought he was someone else.

Meg was just trying to process what she had seen. The woman wasn’t just some stranger, of that Meg was sure. But Meg should have been careful, there would be no going back from this.

Getting To The Bottom Of Things

Meg distinctly saw how she brushed a strand of hair out of his face. Who does that unless they know the person very well? Meg sighed in confusion. Something was very wrong about the situation.

She wanted to get to the bottom of the mystery. But she would put her nose where it didn’t belong and it wouldn’t only be to her detriment, but to the detriment of her husband.

Determined

With a mix of determination and anxiety, Meg quickly followed the woman down the hallway, trying to catch up with her. "Wait!" she called out, her voice echoing through the corridor.

Dozens of thoughts raced through her mind as she rushed after the woman. Was she..? No, Meg refused to think that her husband was capable of such things.

Nowhere To Be Found

Meg looked down both sides of the corridor but didn’t see the woman anywhere. Was she telling the truth and went into an adjacent room to visit her actual loved one?

But then her thoughts darkened as she thought of other possibilities. Did she run down the hall so she wouldn’t be able to catch her? Well, she wouldn’t slip away so easily.

Finding Her

Meg saw the flash of a woman round the corner at the end of the hall. That must have been her. Meg rushed after her with all the speed in the world. This woman was going to give her answers.

Meg tripled her pace with more determination than she had in months. If she had anything that linked her to her husband, she wanted to know. But she didn’t know the terrible mistake she was making.

Not Her

Meg around the corner, “Ahah!” She said, a little too early, because the woman in front of her wasn’t the same woman.

She had just confronted a nurse by accident. “Oh, sorry. I thought you were a different lady.” But the nurse smiled and gave her exactly what she needed.

Directions

“Oh, I know who you’re looking for, dear. The woman that entered your husband’s room. I saw the whole thing unfold. She’s probably at the elevators waiting for it to come up.” The nurse told her.

Meg thanked the wise old nurse and darted down the hall to confront the right person this time. She finally saw the right person at the elevators and called out once again for her to stop. But she wouldn’t be ready for the truth.

Demanding Answers

The woman glanced back, her eyes wide with surprise, but she didn't stop. Meg quickened her pace, feeling a surge of adrenaline coursing through her veins.

She couldn't let this woman slip away without getting answers. But the answers wouldn’t be as satisfying as she thought. They’d leave her empty and full of doubt.

Vanished

But the woman walked into the elevator before she could make it in time. It’s like she had vanished into thin air once again. Meg sighed with a huff.

She racked her brain about what to do now that the woman had given her the slip. How was she going to find out what was going on now?

Back To His Room

She made her back to Andy’s room. There must be some way to find out who the mysterious woman was.

She held her husband’s hand and looked over at the flowers the stranger had left. She was desparate to learn anything new about her husband and thought it would give her closure. Then an idea flashed in her mind.

Searching for Clues

Meg knew that she needed to find some clues to uncover the identity of the mysterious woman. She was no detective, but she decided to do something that she knew Andy wouldn’t have liked.

She began scouring Andy's belongings in the hospital room, hoping to find anything that might shed light on their connection.

His Wallet

She knew this was an invasion of privacy, but she hoped Andy would understand. He wasn’t there for her anymore and she needed answers and closure. She decided that the only place that would hold either of those for her was her husband’s wallet.

He never let her so much as hold it when they were together. Maybe it had something important inside? But she wouldn’t be ready for what she found.

A Receipt

She opened his wallet and found a receipt from a nearby café, dated just a week ago. It seemed like a potential lead. Tears stained the receipt as she fell apart again. She couldn’t cope without her husband, but she had to try.

Meg decided to visit the café, hoping someone there might recognize the woman or have some information about her. It was the only thing that kept her going in this difficult time.

The Café Encounter

With the receipt in hand, Meg entered the bustling café, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of familiarity. She approached the counter, where a friendly barista greeted her.

The warm greeting barely registered in her mind. She was so numb from everything that had happened that kindness wasn’t an emotion she could face right now

Looking For Someone

"Excuse me, I'm looking for someone who might have been here recently," Meg began, her voice tinged with urgency. "She left this place a week ago, and I need to find her."

The waitress’ eyes flickered with embers as she smiled again and said, “Sure, I’d be happy to help. Let me just see that receipt.”

A Lead?

The barista studied the receipt and paused for a moment, contemplating. Finally, she nodded. "I think I remember her.”

She paused for another moment, thinking hard before saying, “She's a regular here. Her name is Jaimie. But I don't know much else about her."

Jaimie

Meg's heart skipped a beat. She had a name now—Jaimie. Was that really the woman who had been her sole obsession for the last few days? Only time would tell.

It was a small lead, but it was something to go on. She thanked the barista and left the café, determined to find out more about this mysterious Jaimie.

The Private Investigator

Realizing that she needed professional help to dig deeper, Meg decided to hire a private investigator.

She couldn’t do everything on her own. She had to look after Andy in case he suddenly woke up, as slim as that was. But the woman who had been on her mind wouldn’t be who she thought she was.

Not Much To Go On

She researched and found a reputable agency known for handling delicate and discreet matters. She just hoped he would be able to help her. After all, it wasn’t exactly a whole lot to go on.

With the name, the private investigator could hopefully find something that she had missed. Could it be that simple? Or were things going to get messy?

Tracking And Tracing

The following day, Meg sat across from the investigator, explaining the situation and showing him the receipt with Jaimie's name.

The investigator assured her that he would do everything possible to uncover the truth. There was no gaurantee, but his reassurance did create a flickering flame of hope in her chest. She had to find out the truth for her own closure.

Finding Something

Days turned into weeks as the investigator delved into Jaimie's background, tracking all her moves.

It seemed a little invasive, but what other choice did Meg have when it had to do with her husband. She was prepared to do anything for him. It wouldn’t be long before he found something.

The Call

Then just as Meg had settled in next to Andy’s bedside, the private investigator gave her a call. She gasped at the information that was given to her over the phone.

Meg just couldn’t believe what she was hearing. All this time, she was sure that everything was all right. But it wasn’t, and Meg sobbed as she put down the phone.

Checking His Phone

She took the private investigator’s advice and checked Andy’s phone. She couldn’t believe she hadn’t thought of checking it earlier.

His phone had a password, but after she tried her birthday, the phone unlocked its secrets to her. But she couldn’t believe what she saw. There it all was plain as day, all the texts and calls made to Jaimie. Andy’s mistress.

A Double Life

It turned out that Andy was living a double life. He had met her at the motor club, and they hit it off immediately.

Teardrops splattered onto the screen of the phone. Was her husband really doing this behind her back? She didn’t know what to think, he always seemed so sweet and loyal. But she was wrong.

Torn

Meg was now torn between having to stay by her cheating husband’s bedside. Would he ever wake up and answer to her about his indiscretions?

Would Jaimie ever have the gall to show up at his bedside again, playing the innocent, grieving mistress? Only time would tell, and Meg didn’t know if she would stick around to find out.

Why Me

Meg had been living in a perpetual nightmare for the past year. Ever since her husband Andy had been involved in a devastating accident, she had been keeping him on life support.

It was a difficult decision to make, but she couldn't bear the thought of letting him go. She clung to hope with every fiber of her being, even though the odds seemed insurmountable.

Time To Reflect

Meg was sitting in the hospital, her heart heavy with grief and exhaustion. As she glanced at the papers on the doctor's desk, her eyes caught a glimpse of something unexpected.

It was Andy’s medical bills; he had been there for eleven months now. Her eyes widened as she saw all the zeros. Her heart sank, and a mix of anger and betrayal coursed through her veins.

It’s My Life

Determined to confront Jaimie about her affair with Andy, Meg gathered her strength and made her way to the local motor club, where she knew Jaimie often frequented.

The atmosphere was filled with the roar of engines and the scent of gasoline. Meg's hands trembled as she searched the crowd for the woman who had shattered her world.

Confrontation Gone Wrong

Finally, her eyes locked onto Jaimie's shocked face. "How did you find me?" Jaimie stuttered, clearly taken aback by Meg's unexpected presence. Meg's voice quivered with a mixture of pain and determination as she demanded the truth.

Jaimie hesitated for a moment before speaking softly, admitting that it had been a chance encounter that had spiraled into an affair fueled by their shared love for cars and a few too many drinks.

Not Worth It

Meg's heart ached with a fresh wave of pain as she realized the depth of her husband's selfishness. “Is that all?” she said smugly to Jaimie like it was nothing but a fling.

He had sought solace and excitement outside their marriage, leaving her alone and broken. Now, his life lay in her hands, a constant reminder of his betrayal.

The Better Person

Meg was burning with anger inside. She was jealous, but she couldn’t let Jaimie know that. As much as she wanted Andy, she felt like pulling the plug on him, she thought about it countless times.

With firm resolve, Meg made her decision. She would keep Andy on life support, but she wouldn't bear the burden alone. She had a plan, that wouldn’t cost her anymore.

An Offer

Persistent Meg went to visit Jaimie at the motor club, she was under a hood. “I have a proposition for you since you ruined my marriage and are probably going to end up with him anyway,” Meg told Jaimie to take care of Andy’s medical bills.

Turning to Jaimie, she demanded that she take responsibility for her actions. Jaimie, feeling a sense of guilt and obligation, agreed to pay for Andy's mounting medical bills.

An Unusual Pair

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into years. Jaimie kept to her word and paid for half of Andy’s bills. She frequently visited him too, even though she had another boyfriend.

Meg became a familiar presence in the hospital, visiting Andy regularly despite the weight of her pain. She sought solace in the routine, in the belief that somehow her love and dedication would bring him back to her.

Weird Connection

As time went on, Jaimie and Meg became somewhat friends. They both cared for Andy deeply and both provided for his wellbeing.

In a way, they wanted to see who he would choose in the end. For now, they had to be nice to each other. Each woman was desperate to prove who loved Andy more.

Days Of Our Lives

Ten long years passed, marked by the ebb and flow of hope and despair. Meg had lost hope, she was financially drained and had a series of bad relationships.

And then, one day, the impossible happened. Andy awoke from his coma, his eyes blinking open to see both his wife and Jaimie standing before him. Confusion clouded his gaze as he whispered, "Am I dreaming?"

A Second Chance At Life

Meg screamed for the nurse. “He’s awake! Nurse! Come quick!” Jaimie jumped up and ran over to the bed.

Meg's heart soared with a mix of relief, joy, and trepidation. She took a shaky breath and gently grasped Andy's hand. "No, Andy," she replied, tears streaming down her face. "You're not dreaming. You're finally awake."

A Living Nightmare

His gaze shifted between Meg and Jaimie, the realization of what had transpired slowly dawning on him. He looked confused and delirious, then his face dropped, and his pain was visible in his eyes.

Regret and remorse etched lines on his face as he struggled to find the words to express his emotions. He had hurt the two women who had stood by him, in different ways.

Flashbacks

Meg walked closer to him, “Do you remember what happened?” she asked him quietly. “He looked dazed. He looked between the two women again. ”Andy, you’re okay,” Jaimie said and smiled at him.

Andy tried to move, “ I remember what I did,” he said with a guilty face. Just then the doctors came in and the women had to move aside.

No Time To Waste

As Andy tried to make sense of his shattered reality, Meg's heart remained heavy. The love she had once held for him had transformed into a complicated mixture of forgiveness, resentment, and uncertainty.

The road ahead would be filled with challenges, as they navigated the wreckage of their relationship and faced the consequences of their choices.

It’s Always Been You

Meg watched as the doctors did tests on Andy. All the time he was just staring at her. It was as though Jaimie wasn’t even in the room. He remembered her more.

But at that moment, standing by Andy's bedside, Meg allowed a glimmer of hope to enter her heart. Perhaps, just perhaps, they could start again.
