Man Leaves Pregnant Wife, 20 Years Later He Sees Her With Someone Else And Regrets It

His Ex-Wife

Dave sat alone in the cafe, enjoying his cup of coffee, when he spotted an unexpected face. He looked at the woman for just a moment. It was his ex-wife, Samantha.

After all those years, she looked amazing. Guilt washed over Dave as he stared at the woman he’d once loved. He remembered when they decided to split up and how it was all his fault.

A Familiar Face

Despite his best efforts, he couldn't hide. Since Sam had already seen him, he felt compelled to walk to her table and talk to her. He hadn't imagined seeing her again after all those years.

Bracing himself, he stood up. Having put her through so much, he wasn't sure how she would react. As he rose, a young man approached her and kissed her on the cheek.

He Wanted Her To Be Happy

Dave backed away when he saw the guy. Sam seemed to be dating a younger man now. He couldn't blame her. After the way things had ended, she deserved all the happiness in the world.

From time to time, he thought about her and wondered how her life had changed after they parted ways. She had every right to be angry with him. He just hoped she could forgive him.

Their Dreams

Samantha Roland and Dave Andrews met in college. Initially, Dave and Samantha were friends, but later Dave discovered that he was in love with her.

Following college, they started dating and eventually moved in together. They planned to start a business together in the future. Dave wanted to start a restaurant, while Samantha wanted a cafe.

Clashing Dreams

Usually, they clashed over what the other wanted. In those days, they were already married, and Samantha knew that running a restaurant would be hard work. They would have to work long hours, unlike running her cafe from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In the end, Dave won, and they began planning everything around the restaurant. As a result, Samantha started feeling very strange.

She Was Ill

For several days, she had been feeling nauseous and tired. She suspected what it might be, but she wasn't sure. Furthermore, she barely had time to eat because she was so busy planning for the restaurant.

Perhaps she wasn't taking proper care of herself. Nevertheless, when the symptoms didn't subside, Sam decided to visit a nearby pharmacy.

The Test

After purchasing a home pregnancy test kit, she rushed home to take the test. She didn't want Dave to know until she was certain. Despite her nerves, she was excited to see the results.

After a few minutes, she looked at the test. The result was positive, and she was pregnant. A wave of joy washed over Samantha. She couldn’t wait to share the news with Dave.

I’ve Got Something To Tell You

She patiently waited for him to return from meeting with the contractors. She knew that this was the good news they had been hoping for. When he stepped through the door, she ran to him.

“Honey, I’ve got something to tell you,” she said with a look of glee on her face.

“What is it? You look very excited,” he said, patiently waiting for his wife to give him the good news.

Guess What?

Samantha took his hands in hers and began to speak. “Remember how I’ve been feeling so sick lately? Well, I took a test, and guess what? We’re going to be parents. I’m pregnant!”

But when she saw the look in her husband’s eyes, the feeling of glee left in an instant. He got up and started pacing up and down. Samantha knew that something was wrong.

Aren’t You Happy?

“Um, aren’t you happy, Dave? This is a blessing for us,” she said. But Dave just looked at her. He had a look of disappointment on his face.

“Sam, we can’t have a baby now. We’re just getting started with the restaurant. How are we supposed to afford that and a baby? I don’t think this is going to work.”

She Was Wrong

Samantha’s heart sank. She didn’t even know what to say to her husband. She thought this was what he wanted. It was supposed to complete their family. But she was wrong.

Dave had no intention of being a father. He only had the new restaurant on his mind. But what was she supposed to do now?

An Ultimatum

It was then that Dave did the unthinkable. He gave her an ultimatum. “You have to seriously think about this, Sam. It’s either me and the restaurant or you and the baby. We can’t have it all.”

Sam was devastated. She couldn’t believe her own husband would be so heartless. She wanted the baby, but she still loved Dave. She didn’t know what she was going to do.

Torn

Torn between her love for Dave and her desire to become a mother, Samantha spent many sleepless nights contemplating her options. She couldn't bear the thought of losing her husband, but she also couldn't fathom giving up the child growing inside her.

Days turned into weeks, and Samantha's pregnancy progressed. Her body changed, and with it, her emotions and priorities. She decided that she couldn't go through with Dave's ultimatum. She couldn't sacrifice the life growing within her for the sake of his ambitions.

I Can’t Make That Choice

One evening, with tears in her eyes, she sat Dave down and said, "I can't make that choice, Dave. I can't give up our child. I thought we were in this together, as partners, as a team. But if you're going to force me to choose, I choose our baby."

Dave's face turned cold and distant. He had made up his mind, and there was no changing it. "Fine, Samantha. If that's your decision, then so be it. But don't expect me to be a part of this. I'm going to focus on the restaurant, and you'll have to figure out the rest on your own."

Faces Challenges

The following months were a tumultuous whirlwind for Samantha. She faced the challenges of pregnancy and impending single motherhood head-on.

Without Dave's emotional support, she leaned on her friends and family, who rallied around her. They helped her prepare for the arrival of her child and provided the love and encouragement she desperately needed. But she still felt so alone.

Successful, But At A Cost

The restaurant opened its doors, and Dave threw himself into his work. He became more successful than he had ever imagined, but it came at a cost. He lost touch with the people who had once mattered most to him.

Just like Samantha, he, too, felt alone. But it was too late now. Sam was gone, and their marriage was over.

Jason

As the years passed, Samantha's love for her child grew immeasurable. She named him Jason and watched him grow into a smart and talented young man. She built a stable and loving home for him, even though it was filled with the absence of his father.

Samantha never forgot Dave, but she buried her feelings and focused on her son's happiness. She was determined to give him a fulfilling life despite the circumstances of his birth.

A Stroll Down Memory Lane

One day, as fate would have it, Dave found himself back in his old hometown. The restaurant business had brought him back, and he decided to take a stroll down memory lane.

He hadn't thought about Samantha or the ultimatum he had given her in years. He believed he had made the right choice for his career.

The Cafe

As Dave walked around town, he noticed a bustling cafe with a sign that read "Cupcakes and Coffee Cafe." Curiosity got the best of him, and he decided to step inside.

He didn't connect the dots right away, but he entered nonetheless. To him, it was a very nice cafe, and the smell of baked goods and coffee had lured him in.

Was It Her?

As he sat eating the delicious slice of chocolate cake and sipped on a strong espresso, he looked to his right. And there in the corner next to a window was his ex-wife, Samantha.

At first, he wasn’t sure whether it was her. But when he turned to look again, he remembered why he had fallen in love with her all those years ago.

A Young Man

Dave froze in his tracks, unable to comprehend the situation. Then, a young man approached Samantha and gave her a warm hug and a kiss on the cheek. Dave's heart sank as he realized the truth.

The guy was the spitting image of himself. It was most likely his son. The son he had abandoned and the heartbroken wife he left to look after their baby all by herself. He felt like a monster.

The Introduction

Dave got up and walked over to them. He felt embarrassed and ashamed at what he did. He just wanted to do right by them.

Samantha introduced Dave to Jason, who greeted his father politely but with an air of detachment. The years of absence had left their mark on their relationship. Dave was overwhelmed with a flood of emotions – regret, guilt, and longing all mixed together.

Making An Effort

He told his son and ex-wife he'd be around town for a week. Would they be open to meeting him for lunch anytime soon?

He left the invitation open, asking them to contact him as soon as possible. "I'm free whenever," he said desperately. But even he knew that he was walking on thin ice. There was no way he could salvage this situation.

Making Mistakes

As humans, we make mistakes. We learn from them, and we become better as individuals. Some mistakes are easy to correct, while others are challenging.

Among those that fall in the latter category are the kind that hurt those who we love. The consequences are usually difficult to maneuver around as they involve other people's feelings. For Dave, this was the issue.

No Straight Answer

Neither Samatha nor Jason gave him a straight answer. In Sam's eyes, Dave could see hurt and betrayal. He could still taste the heartbreak he'd caused her twenty years ago.

In his son, he could see pure anger. He could see the fury of his forefathers swirl in the young man's eyes, a fury wrought from abandonment. How could he show them he wanted to build a life with them again?

You Messed Up

Dave had messed up big time. The feelings he'd once had for Samantha, those same ones that made him get on one knee with a ring in his hand, were flooding back.

He couldn't sleep that night, with his thoughts revolving around Sam and their son. She was just as disarming and intelligent as she'd been two decades past. And their son? He was past perfect. How much had Dave missed out on? Football games, parent-teacher conferences, birthday parties, movie nights, father to son talks… Was he too late?

I’m Not Leaving

Dave decided he'd spend the next two weeks in his small town by morning. He delegated all the roles back at his restaurant to his second-in-command and settled in.

He knew he hadn't ended things well with Samantha. He couldn't just waltz into her life and demand she take him back. He couldn't build a life with Jason when he'd abandoned him for two decades without as little as a Christmas card. But how do you fix something that is beyond broken?

A Tight Spot

Dave decided to draw up a plan, a clear goal to focus on and strive toward. At the end of this goal was the love of his life and their son, Jason.

Dave knew he’d need to impress both Sam and him, to find a good balance between showing he was a changed man and indicating that with him, life for the two would be better. With this goal in mind, he started drawing up a plan.

The Plan

The first bit of the plan would be simple enough. Dave would need to know Sam and Jason’s daily routine. He’d need to know places they frequented and what they loved doing.

He’d have to figure out their likes and dislikes, and weave them into his operation. But he couldn’t pretend to like or dislike what they did just to fit in. He couldn’t lie his way into their lives. This needed to be done fair and square.

Around Town

Dave started by going around town and asking about Sam and Jason. He learned that the two lived in a beautiful bungalow outside town.

It took everything within him not to drive there that morning. He needed to control himself. This was no longer about him. If only he knew how difficult and complicated things were about to get.

Back At The Coffee Shop

Dave drove to the same spot he’d met Sam and Jason the previous day: the coffee shop. But as he was getting out of his car, a thought hit him.

The coffee shop he'd met Sam and Jason in was the cafe Samantha had wanted them to start back in the day. She’d seemed at home there, content with everything around her. It was quickly becoming clear that Dave had really messed up.

Doing Both

He couldn't believe that she'd started a successful business while simultaneously raising their son. She'd managed to do both, finding the perfect balance between the two.

Dave couldn't help but wonder where his life and business would be if he stayed with her. Would he be where he was today? Would his life be different?

His Dad

His life would be better. As a younger man, Dave used to have long conversations with his dad. Among the things the man used to tell him was that the best way to be successful in life, to be rich, was to build with a partner.

Sharing ideas and having someone to risk it all with and for was more meaningful and impactful than doing things alone. He talked about the idea of a lone wolf being a lie. "There is nothing more doomed in the woods than a lone wolf," he used to say. Dave should have listened to him.

Nothing Else Matters Now

Suddenly, everything he'd achieved professionally paled in comparison to the life he would have had with his wife and son. He walked straight to their cafe, hoping to talk to them.

It was a bright Saturday morning full of promise and luck, and Dave was lucky enough to find the cafe open. He walked in, not sure what he'd say when he laid his eyes on the people most dear to him.

Waiting For Her To Call

Dave had spent the entire night and morning waiting for his phone to ring. Back in the day, he and Samantha could barely spend an hour without calling each other.

He'd thought that fire would suddenly return. It was certainly ablaze inside him. But he was starting to realize that this wasn’t the case for Samantha. As Dave walked into the cafe, he noticed something that had his eyes tearing.

Lost

Dave was lost in thought when he walked into the cafe. His memories tortured him, and his reality mocked him for giving up the best things in his life. He had all the money he'd ever wanted. But at what cost?

But as he walked into the cafe, he saw something else that had him breaking in place. Sam was having coffee and muffins at the furthest corner of the establishment, in a tiny, cozy reading nook. But that wasn't all.

Her Dream Came True

The whole place was decorated precisely how Samantha had told him she'd decorate their cafe twenty years ago. From the extensive use of wooden surfaces and rustic wrought iron to reading nooks and inviting coffee booths. Everything was just as she'd said it would be when they were together, and by God, it was past beautiful.

The scents in the cafe were sweet, earthy, and fruity. The colors on every surface made Dave wish to stay here forever. Every customer hunched over a mug or cup of coffee was smiling, happy to be there. Dave could never replicate this same slice of heaven in his restaurant.

He Botched It

If he needed more confirmation that he'd botched things up, this was it. He needed to get back with Samantha and their son, and he needed to do it fast.

He'd give everything he had just to share breakfast with them. He'd sell his restaurant and throw the cash in the ocean if it meant they'd welcome him into their lives. But would they ever agree to be with him when he'd treated them so harshly?

An Icebreaker

Dave approached Sam, sending a greeting her way with a shy smile. "Do you come here often?" he asked, hoping to break the tension in his bones with the joke.

But Samantha stared at him for seconds before quirking a brow. "Yes?" she said. Clearly, her mind had been elsewhere, and she'd not heard what Dave had said. That alone made his stomach grumble.

Five Minutes

"Did you say something?" Sam asked, and Dave said he was just greeting her. "Can you give me like five minutes, please?" Sam asked. It was then that Dave noticed she was on a call. "Business call," her lips curled beautifully.

"Of course," Dave said with his brows drawn up. He stood there awkwardly, watching the woman he'd hurt take care of her business. She was perfect as she closed deals for her cafe. It was even more hurtful that the people on the other end of the call were from different countries, unlike Dave’s business partners.

She’s Perfect!

Dave was humbled by what he saw. Not only was his ex doing better as a parent, but she had a more thriving business than him. His stomach bubbled as he watched her work. But as he waited, Jason came in.

Politely, he said good morning to Dave and walked to his mom. Dave was about to stop him from interrupting his mom when something profound happened.

She Has Time For Him

Samantha paused the call and hugged him. She talked to him lovingly, even letting him say "Hi" to the clients, who spoke to him like they'd known him for years. She was the perfect balance of mom and businesswoman.

Dave could never have stopped a business call to talk to a family member. Slowly but surely, he was starting to realize that perhaps he wasn't meant to be here. He was about to bite more than he could chew, and he'd end up hurting Samantha more than he'd already done.

Listening In

Dave watched as Samantha let Jason talk to her clients. He updated them on his school experience, indirectly letting Dave know he was a second student year in college.

He was getting excellent grades and had made the football team. But he was having a hard time balancing the two. Would they have any advice that would help power through the confusion?

Words Of Wisdom

Dave almost blurted out words of wisdom. He'd played football in college, albeit casually, and knew how to juggle the sport with his education and personal life.

But he had no right to talk. He could only listen and learn. His goal had been to figure out what Sam and Jason liked. He made a mental note about Sam's adoration for coffee and Jason's love for football. He now had something tangible to focus on.

Time For Some Research

Dave excused himself, wishing Sam and Jason a good day. But he didn't return home. Instead, he went to research nearby colleges with extensive football programs.

He also brushed up on his coffee brewing knowledge. He needed to have enough ammo in the chamber to take on both Sam and Jason. He'd have to impress them if he wanted to be in their lives.

Loaded With Knowlegde

Dave got everything he needed and returned to the cafe. Loaded with coffee and college football knowledge, he approached Sam, who was still at her booth. She was reading a novel this time around.

"You left so abruptly," she observed as Dave walked into earshot. "I did," Dave said sheepishly. "Forgive me. I had a few calls I needed to take," he lied, feeling his stomach heat. Was he doing right by starting his interactions with Sam with a lie?

This Was War

For Dave, this was war. He needed every edge he could get, and that included lying, which he hadn’t planned on before. He started talking about how his secretary back home had phoned him, talking about a new high-end client that wanted to partner with the restaurant.

"Oh, you have a secretary?" Samantha asked, her brows quirked. "I do," Dave answered –  another lie. He couldn't stomach the feeling that Sam was doing better than him business-wise and wanted to match up. But his lies would soon catch up with him.

Impressing Her

Dave started talking about coffee brands and how much of a success his restaurant had with pulling in some of the biggest names in the coffee industry. He lied about his restaurant having a coffee menu with over 100 items.

Samantha's eyes lit up the more Dave talked about coffee. He went on for hours about brands and coffee strains, about coffee-making processes, and which brews were best for what occasions. He was already biting more than he could chew.

Hi, Champ

Jason showed up as the two were chatting about coffee. He'd made lunch plans with his mom and was here to honor them. "Hi, champ," Dave called him, and the glare he got made him retract his words. He started spewing football words, talking about how he was connected in the sports industry.

But the more he talked, the more he realized Samantha was smiling. With her arms folded above her chest, she got up and said, "You can stop with the lies now, Dave." The end was here.

She Knows

Samantha had known all along that Dave was lying. After working for twenty years in the coffee industry, she knew everything about coffee. All the details Dave was giving were wrong. She also knew all the names in the game.

She was well-connected and knew which suppliers took coffee to Dave's town. She disliked that he'd come to her establishment with lies to get her attention, although she wanted to see how far he'd go with his lies. But she drew the line when he spewed lies in her son's face.

Apologize

Dave started apologizing, but Samantha wouldn't listen. "Please leave," she asked him. But there was a beastly, primal undertone to her soft voice. "Just go, Dave." Dave walked out of the restaurant. He'd messed up his chances through lies. He needed to change his tactics, or Samantha and Jason would slip through his hands forever.

Before, he'd wanted to appear successful and headstrong. He wanted to show Samantha that his restaurant had been worth it. But now, he realized that she didn't care about his money or success. It was time to change tactics.

Opening Up

Against every fiber in his bone, Dave decided to take an approach he'd never used in his life before. He'd asked for Samantha's business card on his way out. He took it out while in his hotel room and called.

He was glad when she picked up. He started by apologizing for his behavior that day. He opened up about how threatened he'd felt seeing her business flourish. He took back all the lies he'd said and asked for a second chance. Would Sam hear him out?

Making An Effort

This was war. But it didn’t mean that Dave needed to lie and cheat his way to victory. He decided to open up and bear his soul to Sam and Jason. If they deemed him worthy, they take him back. With his vulnerability shining bright, he started frequenting the cafe.

It wasn’t long before Sam gravitated toward him. Jason, too, came around eventually. Over the following weeks, the Dave made an effort to reconnect with them. He found out that the cafe was more popular than his restaurant. He felt so proud of everything Sam had achieved in her life. He felt a deep sense of pride and sorrow for all the missed years.

Cautious

Samantha, on the other hand, was cautious but willing to give Dave a chance to make amends. But she could see how sorry he was and how much he wanted to be a part of their son’s life. But would she be in the wrong for denying him this chance when he already denied it himself twenty years ago?

But he kept pressing on. He’d show up every day for the next two weeks, eager to spend time in her and Jason’s vicinity. As time passed, he began wearing them down. He’d realized that he had missed out on so much by prioritizing his restaurant over them. He watched Jason's talents blossom, and he marveled at Samantha's strength and resilience as a single mother.

Doing Well For Herself

Deep down, Dave still loved Samantha, but he understood that he had broken her heart irreparably. They shared many conversations about their past and the choices they had made. Samantha had moved on and was happy that her cafe was doing so well.

But was she willing to forgive Dave for what he did to her and their baby all those years ago?

Reconciliation

Over time, Dave and Samantha gradually reconciled, not as a couple but as friends who had shared a significant part of their lives together. They supported each other in their respective endeavors, with Dave occasionally helping out at the cafe and taking a genuine interest in Jason's future.

As the years rolled on, Jason began to soften toward his father. He saw the genuine effort Dave was making to be a part of their lives, and slowly but surely, the wounds of abandonment began to heal.

A New Chapter

Samantha, Dave, and Jason found a way to create a new chapter in their lives. It was different from what they had initially imagined as a young couple, but it was filled with its own kind of love and acceptance.

Jason, now a talented musician, performed at the cafe every weekend, drawing in a crowd of loyal customers. Dave couldn't have been prouder, and the bond between father and son continued to grow stronger.

Closure

For Samantha, seeing Dave make amends and become a positive presence in their lives brought her a sense of closure she never thought possible. She had forgiven him, not for his past actions, but for the man he had become.

In her heart, she still remembered the pain of their separation and the ultimatum he had given her. However, time had taught her the power of forgiveness and the importance of moving forward.

A Lesson Learned

Dave had learned a profound lesson about priorities and the true value of family. He had once been willing to sacrifice his own flesh and blood for the pursuit of success.

Now, he had found that success could be redefined in terms of the love and connection he shared with Samantha and Jason. He was never going to let his family go again.

The Reunion

Their reunion wasn't a fairy tale ending, but it was a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the capacity for growth and change.

It showed that even after two decades of separation and heartache, it was possible to find a new kind of happiness, one that celebrated the past while embracing the future.
