Having a cool boss is seriously the best. A boss that makes you feel valued, respected, supports your future dreams, is a boss that we can get behind. Sometimes, though, it feels like bosses like this are just a fantasy. From the bosses who ignore workers getting injured on the job, to the boss that forgot the name of his worker of 2 years, here are some people posting about the worst things their bosses ever said to them.
She should feel lucky, apparently
Sure, having a job is great and all, but some bosses make it seem like their employees should be kissing their toes with gratitude that they have a place to work.
Just look at this boss who texted their employee that they should feel lucky to be scheduled in for shifts at work. We just wonder if this boss feels lucky that they have such hard workers.
Bad until the very end
C'mon, all workers want after putting in all of their blood, sweat, and tears into their job, is just a little bit of gratitude when they decide to leave.
This guy did get a cake, but apparently even two years working at Olive Garden was not enough for them to remember his name. It all went wrong right until the very end, it seems.
Working 9 to 5, what a way to make a living
Let's be honest, there are not many people out there who are working a 9 - 5 just for fun, or because they are passionate about waiting tables or stacking grocery shelves.
Most people are there for the cheque that arrives at the end of the month, and that is about it. So, when this employer told all of his employees to leave if they're their for money, well, that's just ironic.
Why, thank you, kind sir
We feel like this boss probably felt like they deserved so much gratitude for allowing this employee to go home after they projectile vomited all over a customer's shopping.
They totally ignored the fact that this employee had asked to go home right when they arrived at work a few hours earlier. Serves them right to now have to mop up all of that throw up in their store.
Makes sense it has since closed down
This guy says that the pizza shop he worked in as a kid is now closed down, and we most definitely can see why that is the case.
Any restaurant that repurposes food that has fallen on the floor should not be open under any circumstances. Kudos to this guy for reacting the way he did when put in this situation. That was a bold move.
Please don't call this number
Now this is most certainly not the kind of call we would want to receive while sick in bed with the flu - a boss ringing to see if you are feeling better and ready to return to work.
Like, we would actually block our boss's number if they tried to pull this on us. This poor young lady really wanted to quit right then and there, but couldn't afford to do so.
Schedule those injuries in advance
Apparently, some bosses would like for their workers to schedule their accidents in advance, just so they can have the time to organize for someone else to cover the injured employee's shift.
Well, that just sounds totally unreasonable to us, but then again, so does getting written up for not attending your shift after getting a burn at work. Someone needs to knock some sense into this boss.
He has your doctor on speed dial
This boss just went a little too far when he called up this woman's doctor to ask him if she could come into work after they were unable to perform her scheduled C-section.
Like, sir, this woman is 9 months pregnant. It is crazy enough that this boss has her doctor's number, and even crazier that he had the audacity to make this unreasonable request.
If you need gloves, you don't need this job
We don't know what this guy had done to offend his boss other than ask him if he could have some heat gloves while working in the kitchen.
We feel like there should be a lot more to this story, and yet, apparently that was all that this employee had done to get fired from his job. If he was in danger at work, he should be grateful to have lost that job.
That should've been enough proof
After getting sick at work and actually getting sent to the hospital by the company in an ambulance, this employee apparently still did not have enough evidence to prove that she was actually sick.
We would have thought that witnessing the sirens and seeing this young woman being carried out of work and onto a stretcher would have been enough for this boss, but perhaps he is forgetful.
Goodbye and good riddance
Honestly, if we got fired by a boss that did not support our future hopes and dreams, we would gladly say "Good riddance" when being fired.
It is not like this person did not give their boss any notice about them being scheduled to take their MCATs. In fact, they gave their boss four months of notice. Surely there was another waiter that could have taken over their shift.
He shouldn't have lied, but still
Okay, we do not agree with this guy about lying that his Grandma had passed, but his boss did not know that he was lying and should have for sure given him the time off.
Like, we are sure that there are situations like this that people aren't lying and are so traumatized from having to show up to work at such a sensitive time.
Stay in school, kids
Uh, we do not want to be the ones to call this store out, but any boss who insists their employee's job is more important than school, especially when the employee is 16 years old, should definitely take a long look at themselves in the mirror and do some deep introspection.
We would like to think this student quit her job and stayed in school, where they belong.
Some flowers would have been nice
Yeah, sure, a funeral is exactly the same thing as a vacation. That was sarcastic, by the way. Some of these bosses really do surprise us with their lack of empathy and understanding.
A normal company would have even gone to buy this poor woman some flowers after hearing that her grandma passed. This guy is giving her trouble for wanting to attend the funeral.
A meme opportunity
It is like this boss just does not understand the concept of danger, when he tried to keep his Olive Garden open after a truck rammed into the store and engulfed half of the Italian restaurant chain in flames.
Luckily, his employees saw the humor in this and just reacted by making this meme. Honestly, we can not help but laugh at this whole situation.
How dare she
Well, the bosses have said so it must be true - women are not allowed to get pregnant while they are still a part of the workforce. Honestly, it just sounds to ridiculous, we can not even believe that bosses still believe this.
Like, this boss is not a boss from the 1800s who said this. This is a guy who's living in the 21st century.
It takes more than 3 days to grieve
This school deciding that it only takes 3 days to grieve the loss of one's parents sounds like quite a scary school to us. We just wonder what sort of messages they are educating the kids.
Clearly, the management lacks a fair bit of empathy. Hopefully, this teacher quit after they heard that they are not allowed to take off more than 3 days after their mom passed.
Just use a bit of muscle
Maybe this guy is just super ripped that his boss thought he was totally capable of moving an oak tree all by himself. Well, we don't feel like that is a reasonable request to make of anyone, especially not a 16 year old kid.
That is just basically asking for a Tweet about how unreasonable you are. Enjoy being blasted all over social media, dude.
It gets worse
We actually were quite disturbed reading the first part of this post, that this guy was only given one week off work even though they required two weeks to heal his leg that was injured at work.
Well, then his boss told him that the best solution for his grief after his dad passed was to come back to work. We can't believe this boss.
No taking best man offers when working here
Gee, this boss clearly does not want any of his employees having a personal life while working for him. It is like this guy should have turned away the offer to be best man at his best friend's wedding all for his waitering job at Olive Garden.
Surely this manager does not believe his restaurant is as important as something like a best friend's wedding.
Now that's a burn
The one thing that we feel like most employees can agree on is that work should definitely be number one on your priority list. Sure, it can be a priority, but family commitments most definitely take precedence.
We love how this girl responded to her band director telling her she was not allowed to skip practice to go to her Grandma's birthday. What a burn.
That's confusing
You would think that if an employee is on the level that they are able to train in new workers to do the job, they would be a key member of the company.
Well, at least we see it that way, but apparently this boss sees the situation from a whole different perspective. When he fired an employee, he asked if she could come in 2 years later to train in her replacement.
Well, that's harsh
Even if there may not be anyone who can cover the shift, a boss should understand that there are some very unique situations that they should just keep their cool, be a bit kind and understanding, and give their employees what they need.
One of these situations should most certainly be a kid wanting to visit a parent in the hospital. This boss was pretty harsh.
Lifelong pain from work
We totally get why some jobs can feel like endless suffering, but this guy actually will endure endless suffering because of his job.
When his boss told him he had to come into work despite having a terrible cold, he ended up having to use his sore voice and ultimately caused permanent damage. Well, we hope his boss will cover the expenses of his speech therapy.
Hurt one, hurt them all
Not only is making a sick employee come into work terrible for the person who isn't feeling well, it also puts all the other employees in danger of getting sick as well. It is not fair to anyone.
This boss did not even consider his other workers when he made one of his employees sick with Hepatitis A come to work. They all had to be on alert for symptoms after that.
Sounds like a nightmare of a boss
This guy over here had a great win over his nasty boss. Clearly, it was not just him who thought his boss was unreasonable and lacked any sort of emotion.
Having your wife go through a risky pregnancy has got to be stressful enough. Add the mean boss into the mix, and this entire scenario sounds like it came straight out of some sort of nightmare.
Don't mess with an employee
If there is one thing that bosses should know by now is that their employees probably know more about the workplace than they do, seeing as they are the ones that have to actually work in the place.
This boss should have been a bit more understanding of this young lady wanting to attend her graduation and let her have the day off. Instead, he got himself into a bit of a pickle with the health department.
Yes, working in pain is underperforming
This employee was just so dedicated to her job that she actually showed up to work even while she was in so much pain from getting 4 wisdom teeth removed.
She deserves a medal for doing such a thing - we know we wouldn't be up to it. We would much rather just stay in bed and watch movies while the pain passes. Instead, she gets told off for "underperforming."
Just be grateful they didn't quit
We would have thought that after going through an injury at work that required 9 stitches, a person would never even consider returning back to work there.
Well, this boss did not only take it for granted that their employee didn't quit after this happened to them, but they also expected them to come the very next day. To top it all off, they didn't pay them for the time they missed while they were getting stitches.
Family over work, always
We are genuinely curious as to whether this boss actually expected his employee to respond that work was more important than family when he asked her which one she prioritized.
Jeez, he must really think that his workplace is just oh so awesome that employees have replaced their moms, dads, brothers and sisters with his sensational environment of hard work and hustle. This is what we call delusional.
They asked for it
This boss can certainly have no complaints after they literally told this person they can only leave if they puke, and then having the them puke all over the floor.
They should have listened right away when their employee told them that they were too sick to work. Honestly, they should have been appreciative that they showed up to work that day in the first place.
He got what he deserved
Ugh, the last thing we want to do when we feel sick like a dog is show up to work, and being forced to do so by your boss sounds so absolutely horrible.
Well, this girl was not going to tolerate it. She took the high road, showed up, and then publicly shamed her boss by telling all of the customers that she was working against her will before quitting. She's our hero.
She saw that
When this girl went in for a job interview, she saw the company she was interviewing with tell the candidate right in front of her that they wanted her to join the company.
Then, when it came time for her interview, she was told that they'd get back to her. Like, she heard you guys. There is no need for the lies. Honesty is key over here.
A win for the employee
Sometimes companies do have to layoff workers if they are unable to afford them, but this company clearly did not think it through when they were coming up with excuses as to why they had to fire these specific workers.
Well, this guy called his boss out on the reason for them firing him being absolute garbage. He successfully got his job back and won the case.
That should not be a job anyone does
Any job that is health-threatening should not be a job that anyone does. There is only so much you should do to make money, and risking your life should never be one of those things.
This poor guy sounds like he was so tormented by his job, we feel like it would have been the greatest relief for him to never have to come back.
