These Photos From The Past Will Tell You The Most Intriguing Historical Stories

We can never describe history through a bunch of photos as it is quite vast and beyond our imagination. There are so many undiscovered aspects of the past that might carry some unbelievable tales from history. If you think you have seen a lot from those times, then think again! These historical photos have unimaginable stories to tell.

Towards Explosion

When the NASA Space Shuttle orbiter took off on January 28, 1986, no one anticipated that the journey would finish in such a tragic way and that too within 73 seconds of its flight.

All seven people lost their lives including 5 astronauts, a civilian school teacher and a payload specialist. One joint failure in the right solid rocket booster led to this disaster. You can see the witnesses of the tragedy here.

Happy Faces At The Beach

The girls pictured here are Margot Frank and her sister, Anne Frank. They seem to be enjoying their beach day in August 1940 as we can tell from their big smiles!

This snap formed a part of Anne’s photo album, Zandvoort. In 1942, Anne Frank started keeping a “diary” in which she described every part of her struggle while hiding in Nazi-occupied Holland. How life turns around in a matter of two years!

Physicist On Tour

We hope you spotted the great German physicist Albert Einstein in this picture. But there’s more to this picture than the presence of this Nobel Prize winner. He is not performing any physics experiment or carrying out research here but on a tour with his wife (the woman in front) and some friends.

You might have seen photos of this famous personality at his workplace but a sneak peek into his personal life is definitely “new”!

Dancing In The “Clouds”

This is Gene Nelson pictured here doing what he does best – dancing!

He got to the top of a mountain and performed some dance moves and when clicked, there was a surprise in the backdrop. Look closely, that’s not an ordinary cloud below his left leg, it is a cloud formed after an atomic bomb explosion that happened 40 miles away from his position.

What a perfect timing for the capture!

How They Saw The End!

Yes, those are bullet shots on the car door that you see here!

This is how Bonnie and Clyde, the American criminal couple saw their end. They robbed banks, stores and gas stations during the Great Depression and this is how the officers caught them and brought them down near Sailes, Bienville Parish, Louisiana, in 1934.

This is what their car looked like after they were attacked and died.

Gathered For An Execution

Believe us when we say that this large crowd of 20,000 people assembled in Owensboro, Kentucky to witness Rainey Bethe being hanged to death after confessing to assault and murder of a 70-year-old woman.

This was the last public execution as some issues occurred due to gaffes during the hanging that caught the eye of media. No one wants to repeat that!

Customization For Kids

When World War II began, the danger of the release of toxic gases increased due to the use of nuclear weapons. The children needed to be kept away from the inhalation of such harmful air and such masks were made for them.

This Mickey Mouse inspired gas mask is displayed in a museum for people to have a look at the small things that were created as a result of the war circumstances.

Bonding Over A Cigarette?

The two people photographed here are the leader of the Soviet Union Nikita Khrushchev and Indonesian President Sukarno. What a lovely picture reflecting friendship is this!

You must have never seen such a picture of two leaders sharing a cigarette. Khrushchev used his cigarette to light Sukarno’s and this was captured in 1960. Khrushchev, First Secretary of the Communist Party led the Soviet Union but was forced to step down as a result of failed policies.

An Emotional Moment

You will have a burst of emotions as you see this photo and know the story behind this moment. This old man is a World War I veteran, Joseph Ambrose who is attending the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.

That American flag in his hand was used to cover his son’s coffin who lost his life in the Korean War in 1951. We can feel so many emotions as we see this photo!

Sparks All Around

What else can you expect from an inventor’s lab? These electric sparks formed a part of Nikola Tesla’s experiment and it might look slightly strange to you, but that’s how this engineer made his discoveries and inventions.

His high voltage generator is discharging electricity that you can see in the form of sparks. His other invention must be in progress here in 1899. Tesla received a lot less credit for his work and many scholars agree to this!

Abraham Lincoln’s Lesser-Seen Look

Let’s take you back to 1858 when Abraham Lincoln sported this look without the beard. Don’t be too shocked, he took his time to make a signature style with his beard! This photo was taken in Beardstown, Illinois and it can’t get more iconic,

We all remember him with his typical bearded style that he flaunted for the longest time. The picture on the left got captured in 1858 and the right one in 1860. We all know how he changed his appearance after that.

Tampering With A Statue!

The people in this photo holding all kinds of “destructive” equipment look really dedicated to the task of bringing down the statue. What can be the reason behind this demolition project in progress?

This moment was captured on May 23, 1991, in Ethiopia when the Soviet Union lost power over them. They decided to dismantle the monument dedicated to Russian Bolshevik leader Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (his statue, of course!). We wonder what else they tore down that day!

Those “Classic” Shoes

These shoes pictured here are not remembered for setting any great trends in the footwear industry. In fact, they are “cow shoes” worn by the ones who illegally made and sold alcohol during Prohibition.

The bootleggers came up with this design of the shoes that made their footsteps sound like an animal roaming around so that no one can doubt them as they head towards their brewery or distillery outside the city. However, the officers got aware of this smart “criminal” tactic soon.

Memorial In Making

You don’t always get to know what went behind-the-scenes of construction of a popular monument or architectural design. But this photo will give you a glimpse of the work that happened during the making of Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

Here is a worker carving the details on the face of George Washington’s 60-foot-high sculpture (that’s just one of the four faces on the memorial!). A lot of effort can be felt here.

Some Turbulence Encountered

This is 1911 and the image shows a Wright Glider that did not have a “perfect” landing and had to face some constraints. But the creators were not ready to give up as yet!

You can spot Orville Wright here as he steps off the glider while Alec Ogilvie (left) and Wilbur Wright attempt at positioning it correctly after the bumpy landing. The same year saw Orville took a flight for 9 minutes and 45 seconds creating a record for 10 years!

The Martian Sunset

If you have ever wondered about the view of the sun from the planet Mars, then this NASA click is an answer to your imagination!

This is an image from the Gale Crater taken by NASA's Curiosity Rover and you can see the sun setting. When observed from earth, the sun appears different due to the differences in the atmosphere of both the planets. It appears really tiny here due to its larger distance from Mars.

A Huge Cutting Tool!

These loggers are holding a saw that is 28-foot long! Unbelievable, right?

They are standing in front of an enormous Redwood tree in California in 1907 and if you are wondering about the colors of the photo, then we are here to tell you that this is colored by hand. Such an amazing creation!

The trunk can be seen cut by that giant saw and we think it was an extraordinary moment for the woodcutters.

What’s So Funny?

You can’t miss this rare moment of Adolf Hitler having a good laugh with Ferdinand Porsche (standing on the left) as he describes him the model of a Volkswagen car with its engine in the rear. We guess that’s where Hitler found a joke!

Here’s a quick fact – Volkswagen means “people’s car” in German and the company was brought in by a Nazi labor union called “German Labour Front”.

When Colleagues Meet

It is rare to capture two colleagues, one retired and the other succeeding him in one frame. But this historical picture of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and Joseph Stalin in 1922 is that unusual instance and it is remarkable!

Stalin took over the Soviet State after Lenin and he decided to follow dictatorial rule from 1922 to 1953 when he was the General Secretary of the Communist Party. This photo definitely carries significance!

We Spot A Former U.S. President

That’s right! The little guy you see here riding a pony in the right picture is none other than the 42nd president of the United States of America, Bill Clinton.

The photo on the left was taken around the 1950s while the other one shows you the five-year-old Bill Clinton. We all now know what this little boy grew up to become. From being governor of Arkansas to the President of the country, Clinton had a remarkable journey!
