Mia couldn't believe what she was seeing. How could he betray her like this? Her heart raced as tears pooled behind her eyes. When Mia showed up at the US military base in Kuwait, nobody knew what to make of it.

“Hey, Mia,” he forced a smile and nervously scratched the back of his head. She found his behavior odd. Perhaps he was just surprised to see her, she thought. “Jonathan didn’t mention you were coming to visit,” he said nervously.
“I wanted to surprise him for Valentine’s Day,” she said, “Do you know where he is?” But the situation only got worse from there.
He Had To Go
Landon opened his mouth to answer Mia, but no words came out. He didn't know what to say. What was going on? “Landon?” Mia asked, suddenly feeling unsure of herself. She was getting worried now. She hadn’t spoken to her husband all week. Could something have happened to him?
“Look, Mia, I have to go,” he said, a glint of sadness in his eyes before he turned around and left, leaving her alone and confused.
His Voice
It was up to her to find her husband on her own. Though she couldn't understand Landon's strange behavior, she was certain she would eventually find her husband as she walked from unit to unit. Upon approaching a group of small huts, however, she heard an all too familiar voice. It was her husband, and he was laughing with someone.
As she stepped up to the hut, her heart filled with excitement. But when she saw what was inside, her heart sank. How could he do this?

Born and raised in a small town in Michigan, Mia White never thought she would marry a military man. Her dream man was far from a soldier. Mia always thought she would marry a chef or an English teacher.

“I’ll be back before you know it. We’ll call every day, I promise,” he said before kissing her goodbye. Watching him leave was extremely painful.

But he was right; those few months passed in the blink of an eye. They called each other at least three times a week, and before she knew it, he was on his way back home. Mia waited at the airport, and as soon as her eyes found him, her stomach filled with butterflies.

Mia was certain that marrying Jonathan was the right thing to do. He’d met her family, and everybody loved him. They began planning the wedding right away, and Jonathan already knew who his best man would be.

That morning, Mia woke up with the widest smile on her face. Finally, she was going to get married to her best friend. She spent that morning with her family, preparing for the wedding. When she saw her husband at the altar, her heart swelled in her chest.

When she saw Landon’s familiar face right by the entrance, she decided to approach him. “Do you know where Jonathan is?” she asked, smiling. But there was something different about Landon.

“Is everything alright?” she asked him. His eyes diverted from hers to the ground below him. Something just wasn’t right. She could still hear her husband’s voice as he continued to speak to someone inside the hut.
Mia assumed it was one of their fellow soldiers. But just then, Landon shook his head and said something she never expected to hear. “I should have told you sooner. I’m sorry,” he said.
The Voice
That was when Mia noticed something. She could hear the voice from inside the hut that didn’t belong to her husband. It was a woman’s voice. Her eyes left Landon’s disappointed face as she turned back to the hut.

He was a model soldier and a devoted husband. But Landon was far from finished with the story yet. "He's had a drinking problem for over a year now," Landon said softly. "He's been very good at hiding it from everyone, including you."

She hated to hear the giggles of this woman. Jonathan was clearly whispering sweet nothings to her. That’s what he used to do to her. And now it was all gone.

“Don’t talk to him like that. I’m sorry that you’re old news honey. He loves me now,” Mia heard come out of the woman in the corner.
The audacity of the woman had no end. Mia even noticed how taken aback Jonathan was by it.
“How dare you. You know what? I think you both deserve each other,” Mia said, getting ready to leave forever. But Jonathan piped up for the first time.
